What one piece of advice would you give someone who was just beginning to write fiction?

I think a more authentic (and fun) title would be advice about writing advice.
Thanks for the suggestion. I’ve been starting the titles of all my ‘writing about writing’ posts with ‘writing about…’ but I’m not sure how long I’ll be able to do so. I’ll keep your alternative in mind.
