Writing about the web

Writing about writing, Week #19
When did you start using the Internet? Do you think it has affected the way you write? Or the way that you communicate in general?
If you’ve answered this question in your blog, please leave a link to the entry in the comments box below. Alternatively you can write/paste your answer directly in the comments box.

I feel like I’ve been using the internet forever. I started in 1997 and created my first professional website in 1998. It was a gaming website complete with forums, member messaging, and a gallery of member artwork, poetry, and music.
I’ve often felt more comfortable online than off. I often joke that “I live here” but it is closer to the truth than I really should admit. I spend more time online and have more friends, associates, and collegues online than people I associate with in person. I wish this weren’t true and I’d love to meet more people locally who share my interests but the internet opens the doors to the world.
Obviously, with such a substantial influence in my adult years it has transformed the way I write. The internet has provided learning opportunities and a wealth of information I would never have found in the real world. There are writing opportunities here that vary greatly from those offered locally. Writing FOR the web is different than writing for print. I like to believe that I have gained skill and experience thanks and my online connections have played an important role in that.
What a great topic, Natasha, but as much as I love these weekly writing prompts I miss YOU! I miss topics about what’s going on in your mind, what you’re thinking about when it comes to writing, how you’re progressing, what are you doing. I want to read someone elses writings about writing, I want to learn from someone elses experience and not simply reflect on my own.
