The power of the pen
Posted on November 28th, 2007 by Natasha
One of my major distractions from writing over the past few weeks has been following the Australian elections, and reading endless politically-focused articles at the online version of Melbourne’s The Age newspaper. Which leads me to this week’s writing about writing question…
Writing about writing, Week #10
This might be another silly question to ask writers, but in your opinion, is the pen really mightier than the sword?
If you’ve answered this question in your blog, please leave a link to the entry in the comments box below. Alternatively you can write/paste your answer directly in the comments box.

No, I don’t think so. If the pen were mightier than the sword, Burma would be a democracy and Tibet would have independence.
I think it’s a pretty close contest though - the pen is mightier than is generally given credit for, because it is an agent of social change (and can influence the sword!).
PS Did you give up on NaBloPoMo?
I agree with you here - it’d be nice to think that the pen was mightier than the sword, but the reality proves otherwise in many cases.
And yes, I had to abandon NaNoWriMo and NaBloPoMo in favour of launching a website and applying for a new job (at least the latter two projects were a success). Will have to try again in November 2008. How’s your novel going?
Hear, hear Caitlin! And Africa would be self-sufficient instead of finding herself raped, plundered, and pillaged by EVERY democracy in the world.
